Villages and towns to visit
Santarcangelo of Romagna
Santarcangelo di Romagna is one of the countries of the Romagna hinterland more colorful and poetic. Tonino Guerra lived here and the incredible views and sunsets offered by the town. The most famous symbol of Santarcangelo is the Campanone, a bell tower erected in the 19th century and its Arch in the main square. Famous is the Festival of St. Martin.
Gradara
On the green hills on the border between Emilia Romagna and Marche is the splendid fortress and the village of Gradara. The castle of Gradara is famous for the beauty of its narrow streets and its romantic charm. Gradare was one of the most important military posts of the Malatesta family from Rimini. Today the evenings of the siege of the castle are celebrated in summer.
Saint Leo
San Leo rises on the steepest mountain of the whole Apennines: Mount Feliciano, which is so steep that it can be reached through a single road cut into the rock. It is characterised first and foremost by the Fortress which rises above the town; the bell tower and the Cathedral are also interesting to visit. It hosted Dante and Saint Francis.
Verucchio
Verucchio, the most romantic of the fortified cities of the Malatesta family is just a few kilometres from Rimini. In fact, this beautiful town offers enchanting views, showing even today, thanks to its fortress, the signs of a past of dominance. The hill on which Verucchio stands is located at the beginning of the Valmarecchia, along the roads that lead to the hinterland of Rimini.
Montegridolfo
On the hills that divide Emilia Romagna from Marche lies the suggestive location of Montegridolfo. Between the valleys of the river Conca and the river Foglia, this village has the peculiarity of being enclosed by thick defensive walls. A place to visit during a holiday in Romagna.
San Marino
The Republic of San Marino is the oldest independent state in the world. It was founded by the hermit saint Marino in 301 A.D. and since then it has preserved its values of freedom and democracy. The three castles of San Marino stand on the three peaks of Mount Titano.
